Why is weather so scary?

Number of naps so far today: 0
Number of calories burned: none, none, NONE!
Books read over vacation: 6
Books left to read: all of them
Number of times seen Twilight: 3

So I was watching my local news today and the top story was the weather. Dear sweet mother of Yoda... IT WAS RAINING! Let's drop everything and get into a storm shelter because who knows the horrific damage RAIN can do!!!! Not even a thunderstorm, just RAIN!

Is it just me? Am I the only one who isn't freaked out by simple weather occurrences? Even my grandmother won't go out to do errands when it's raining. It's not like there's a plague of locusts outside, the water won't burn our skin and the lack of sunlight isn't going to do any damage either. If the streets were flooding I would understand getting freaked out, but to spend most of the newscast updating viewers on the amount of rain... really? And I don't need to be reminded millions of times that once the temperature reaches a certain point the water will freeze and turn to snow. If there is an actual chance we will get snow in the valley, say it, don't allude to it if we aren't. Come on, we haven't had snow here in a long time, don't get people's hopes up.

And yes, when it rains I pretend i am in Washington waiting for Edward Cullen to find me.
